Josh could let him have it–go literally anywhere else in the building–but he was here first, both in the hall and hospital, and this awkwardness between them—this no man's land between what they are and what they are not–is all on Wolf’s shoulders.
Let him deal with it.

"Lt–" Soap starts, lips parted on a rough exhale. A plea or a warning, Ghost can't tell. He's too focused on the way Soap's pupils dilate, and the way the edge of the knife digs into the fabric at his throat.

Soap felt lead drop in his stomach. “Oh,” he said. “No, they’re not.” Soap took a nervous sip of his drink to hide his face, hoping Ghost would relax and move on by the time he finished swallowing, but Ghost seemed content to seethe. “He didn’t mean it, y’know,” Soap tried. “Nobody thinks you and I are like that even if they joke.”
“Don’t they, Johnny?” Ghost met Soap’s gaze. His eyes were dark, intense; they didn’t give anything away. They made Soap feel like he was pinned to a board with his guts exposed for Ghost to analyze. They made Soap feel like Ghost knew.
Soap isn't out, afraid it'll affect his prospects in the military. When Ghost gets too close to the truth, he panics.

If he makes it out of this alive, he's going to have to beg forgiveness for somehow mixing Ghost's knives in with his own gear. Possibly he's gonna have to go to confession because this feels like one of the bad sins.
Or, a mission goes awry, and now Soap's got to deal with hostile terrain, a hit squad of cartel sicarios on his tail and Ghost's voice on his busted radio. Honestly, it's the last thing that probably fucks him up the most.

He's about to call it and make the trek back into town on foot, until he hears a rumbling pick-up truck come around the bend. He smooths back his damp, loose mohawk before he moves to the side of the car to lean against the door, pushing out his chest to display his tattoos and plastering on his winning smile.
It works—hook, line and sinker as the truck slows to a crawl. The door slams shut, and when the owner appears from behind, John swallows hard, his throat growing dry from more than just the heat with his heart thumping an unfamiliar swing in his chest.

We’re the only bloody things he cares about. Everything else is fodder. If you ever have to make this call, you better be damn sure you don’t care about survivors, because there won’t be any.”
Price had been so eager to give the order. Imagine holding the nuke in your hands, knowing that you’ll be the only thing to survive its detonation. Imagine being Noah, but with the power to call the Flood whenever he wished.
Soap shivers, something not altogether kind or good curling around his brainstem at the notion.
Whether Gaz clocks it or not, he can’t say, but he eventually murmurs, “You’ll need a psych eval after this. We all get one after Ghost smokes out. Even him.”
Soap frowns. “Why?”
Gaz shrugs. “You’ll have to ask him. Personally, I think we all like it a bit too much.”
Soap blushes, and doesn’t have the words for why.

He’s not overly tall, but he’s wide in the shoulders and thick in the thighs. He’s the kind of big that’s naturally built all over: training muscles on top of mission muscles on top of an innate bulk.
He’s the kind of big that makes him immovable to most guys.
The kind of big that’s always been -ger than most everyone else—if not by height, than at least by heft.
So when they’re on mission and Ghost spots a grenade before Soap does, and, with no time to warn him, grabs him by the waist and flings him back behind cover, gear and all, Soap’s really not expecting to think much about it, aside from maybe, ‘Oh, shit.’
What he thinks instead is: ‘Oh-hmm.’
And then, in rapid succession: ‘Big.’

Summary
John MacTavish hasn't seen Simon Riley since the day Simon rushed him to a London trauma center... and then walked away. The absence made John's road to recovery all the more agonizing, but luckily, the rest of the 141 along with other friends and family filled the hole left by a ghost.
Now, three and a half years later, John finally has his life together. He works for the MOD (and the CIA... ahem) as a civilian demolitions consultant. He's got a house, a (mostly) clear head, and most importantly, a date with someone new to his best mate's wedding.
John's ecstatic to be standing up as Kyle's best man. Unfortunately, it also means standing in the same room as a certain Lieutenant. It's okay, though. For Kyle's sake, John can keep all the anger and hurt festering inside of him in check. All he has to do is avoid Simon for the next few hours, and they'll go their separate ways.
Too bad Simon has other plans that, unbeknownst to either of them, will change their lives forever.
For better or for worse.
