Summary
Kakashi could see the vein on the man’s head getting bigger and bigger, his teeth grinding together, almost amusing and - and there was a whiff of the smell again.
Kakashi blinked his visible eye lazily, sniffing the air subtly - he was after a mission, so perhaps his imagination ran wild but… But it was there, the woods after the fresh rain and also the warmth of the lit firewood. Kakashi’s mouth opened under the mask, his body almost moving on his own, only to be stopped by the chunin Kakashi almost forgot was in the room finally snapping.
“Irresponsible! Good for heavy work, but writing a half decent scrolls is apparently way over their capabilities. ANBU being able to work in teams of one?! Forget it! There apparently need to be at least two, so one can read and the other to actually write!” It wasn’t even at Kakashi. Just because of him.

Kakashi returned to the village fundamentally changed. Rumors swirled that Kakashi had finally lost it, that he was off active duty, that he was jumping at shadows.
Kakashi was avoiding Iruka, only coming to him in moments of great anguish, but Iruka wouldn’t allow Kakashi to suffer alone, or run away from their blooming relationship.

“Naruto’s a strong kid,” Kakashi says, who has sauntered up to them in the meantime. “He’ll be fine.”
Iruka smiles sadly. “I hope so. Thank you for helping us." He says and bows as deeply as he can manage with Naruto clinging to him – which isn’t very deep. “If you hadn’t been there…” He pauses, the imagery of what could have happened too violent in his mind. and he shakes his head to get rid of it.
“Please,” he says. “Can I do anything to repay you?”
“Maa, sensei,” Kakashi says, sticking his hands in his pockets. “I didn’t do it to get anything in return.”
“I know that, Jounin-san, but I want to,” Iruka says, and blurts the first thing that pops up in his mind, “how about dinner?”

Kakashi knew that Gai wouldn’t accept his reasoning. Gai never entertained Kakashi’s self-loathing, always managing to steer the thoughts into a different, more positive direction. Kakashi was grateful for it.
However, lying wouldn’t get him anywhere either. He bit at his lip, feeling his sharp canines catch on the chapped flesh. He forced himself to breath, relax, and cease the nervous tick usually hidden behind a mask, “It just seems like it might be nice. To be cared for by him.”

As day drifts to night and night drifts to the bewitching hour, Iruka is taken from his bed and cast out into the past. A dream, a myth, an illusion. His home is his home, except for when it is not.
Not in the here and now, but the then and there. When he first became ensnared by him. By Hound. The wooden slats of the floorboard beneath his bare feet are warm though it is the inkling of springtime in truth, he knows. Iruka is in between a slumbering and waking state, the familiar scent of earth and spilled blood sears itself across his conscious and subconscious mind.

Jihoon has no idea what he should be doing here.
If the Bureau has a Standard Operating Procedure in place, to direct him on what to do in the extremely unlikely event he crash lands on a deserted island with a highly dangerous criminal, he’s never read it.
Other than sit tight and wait for rescue (and keep an eye on Seungcheol in case he somehow succeeds in building a raft and rowing away) he’s at a loss.It certainly doesn’t help that Seungcheol doesn’t see himself as a prisoner, and thus fails to subscribe to any of the typical prisoner behaviours one would expect. Sure, he might fashion himself a wicked looking knife out of scrap metal and leather, spend an hour sharpening it while he stares menacingly into the middle distance, but then he’ll go use that knife to make Jihoon a parasol out of palm tree fronds and insist he sit under it because—
“No offence, but you’re paler than a daikon radish. Until we get our hands on some sun block, you need to stay in the shade. In fact, here, take my shirt.”
It seems stupid to stay on your toes around a guy who is literally prepared to give you the shirt off his back.
