Summary

“It’s not cuddling,” Arthur insisted, though he opens his arms for Merlin to crawl into them. “It’s called survival. I’m stealing your warmth. It’s your duty to make sure I’m kept comfortable, is it not?”

Princes are supposed to be noble, responsible, respectable people, and they’re the figure who represents the king. I’m little more than a damn disgrace to this family, and the king of this house is surely disappointed in me. Princes don’t do drugs, do they? They probably drink wine or whatever, I dunno, but no prince in this world has ever gotten hooked on morphine, have they? Not before me, at least. Any prince in history would get kicked off of the throne with crazy quickness if they did all of the shit I’ve done, and now everybody’s telling me I need to pray before our Lord to avoid going to Hell. I don’t really give a fuck, to be honest. The idea of there being a special place in Hell reserved just for me is more comforting than being in Heaven surrounded by crooks and liars who pushed everybody else into the dirt in the name of God.

Arthur sends Merlin to Gwen's chambers late at night to deliver a gift, not telling him that Merlin is the gift. Gwen is thankful her husband cares so much about her. Merlin spends a lot of time confused.

They know how hard he works and trains to protect the city, but he’s no Superman. Even Tim has lost his hero worship in the year and a half he’s been with them; groundings and frustrating evenings trying and failing to help with homework will do that. So yeah, he knows he’s not their favorite hero.
