Throughout the story, we see the gang deal with jobs, being stuck living together, and a familiar once thought to be abstracted character, who turns out to be a major asshole, that almost gets one of the circus members killed.

It would be an easy fix but due to Jax's self destructive and frankly assholish tendencies the glitch becomes worse, creating an entity with the manifestations of Jax's repressed desires for connection in his own mind. After escaping the circus, Pomni tries to put her life back together as she nagvigates old and new friendships while searching for the only people who can understand what she's been through.

The tiny silver shred of hope she had always held onto was gone forever. Every thought feels suspect. Every emotion feels borrowed. When reality itself is artificial, how can she trust anything she feels?

Always gentle, always patient, Ragatha becomes Pomni’s anchor in a place that refuses to stay still. Jax has to deal with the aftermath of the gun adventure. He tried to push Pomni away, but she didn't buy a word of it. And instead of keeping walls between them, their relationship becomes closer than either of them expected.

Jax obliges, shaking off the feeling. He studies her as she examines the handle, a scrunched up face, puzzling over how to get the door open. The way she fidgets with the handle, like she’s done this hundreds of times. Cute.
“So, I think it has two locks, and knowing Caine…” Pomni looks up to Jax, who is leaning against the door, holding the light shining down on her, with a soft smile stretched across his face. “Jax?”
“Huh wha..?” he jolts out of his daze, realizing the scene that had just taken place…and what exactly he was thinking about. What is going on with him?

“I'm worried… about Jax..” Pomni wrung her hands, pinching the ends of her gloves.
“Jax? Did he..? Did he threaten you?” Ragatha felt her heart drop, despite her talk with kinger she still couldn't help but blame herself for leaving Pomni with Jax, her hand wrapped the wooden arm of her rocking chair.
“What.? No! No no.. I'm worried for him, I mean..” she shuffled on ragatha's bed, “ I've never met someone before they abstracted but…” she could only make herself make eye contact for a second at a time before looking back at her hands, or the bed or anything else.
