Simultaneously, Katsuki had so much to say, and nothing to say at all. Comforting Izuku was a short-term solution to the adversity he had faced that day. It wasn’t going to change. It wasn’t going to get easier. Both Katsuki and Izuku knew that.
“Breathe, Izuku.”
They had to carry the guilt and the pain with them, for the rest of their lives.
All Katsuki could do was be there for Izuku at that moment. One small moment, out of hundreds that had passed and a thousand more moments that were yet to come.

OR: Izuku had only stolen the scarf from the man because it was getting cold, and his clothes wouldn't keep him warm in the night for much longer. He hadn't meant to attract the attention of Heroes.

After the war ends Izuku Midoriya really just expects everything to continue how it was before. Yes, he knows they need to rebuild and yes he knows it won’t be as easy as he wants it to be.
But nothing, nothing could’ve prepared him for this.
who would’ve thought the reward for winning a war wasn’t early retirement and having so much money you don’t know what to do with it but a nightmare of a disease that’s apparently incurable even in a super-powered quirked world.
This definitely wasn’t on Izuku’s 20xx bingo card.

Summary
The world is an ugly place to those that don't fit in with "normal" society, especially in a world where "normal" is typically objective thanks to the appearance of Quirks. However, there's four things that some can attest to being "abnormal". Heteromorphic mutants, Quirkless people, people with "villainous" quirks, and Hunters.
For Heteromorphic mutants, it's a more social issue with them as some view them as unsightly or inhuman. For Quirkless people, it's the same but much worse as many think that the quirkless are "unevolved" or weak and shouldn't take up space in modern society. People with "villainous" quirks are socially treated like they're already villains. Hunters, though, it's not just treated like villains or others. It's being treated like a constant threat, by both people and the government.
Izuku knows this first hand, because he is one. He's had to deal with it all his life, but even so, he still wants to be a hero. He wants to help those like him and faced things like he did. He wants to leave his mark on the world as the first Hunter hero and prove that they're not all a threat.
Will he be allowed to, though?

His lashes are stuck together, blinking slow, like even that’s too much effort. Strands of hair cling to his forehead, dark with sweat and salt, and his eyeliner is smeared-
And those eyes. Still burning under everything. Shattered, but unrelenting.
Izuku stares.
And swallows the lump in his throat, hard.
Katsuki cries, and Deku is royally fucked.

Agony tore up his spine, molten fire engulfing his wings as he twitched on the ground. At least he thought it was the ground, the scent of mud and rotting leaves clogging his nose.
The quiet thrum of wrong-wrong-wrong echoed in the back of his mind, drowned out by a high-pitched ringing shooting through his ears. He was sure he wasn’t supposed to be here, but he couldn’t feel anything passed the white-hot agony, so he stayed slumped on the maybe-ground.
His throat felt dry and his tongue heavy, but it was the taste of dirt that made Izuku realise that he hadn’t closed his mouth. His chest was heaving, roughly panting for air, for some relief from the pain. He might’ve let out a chocked coo, a desperate call for a flock member to come to his aid, but he couldn’t be sure.

With his anxiety escalating, Izuku struggles to focus, and in his flustered state, he accidentally grabs Katsuki's notes after class instead of his own. Realizing his mistake, Izuku is now in a full panic. He's terrified—because when it comes to Katsuki, nothing good ever comes from making a mistake like this.
