The world snaps back into place. Mike stands in front of him, brows knit with concern. His hand is hovering near Will's arm like he isn't sure if he's allowed to touch.
"Hey," Mike says quietly. "You spaced out. I've been calling your name."
Will swallows. His throat feels raw, like he's been screaming instead of standing still, the feeling of Vecna's claws wrapped around his neck.
"I'm fine," he says automatically. Mike doesn't buy it. He never does.
OR:
Will is haunted by what Vecna showed him, and by the things he's never said out loud. When Mike notices something wrong, the conversation they've been avoiding finally comes to the surface.

But he doesn't want that. It's been a handful of hours and the thought of Buck never coming by again already seems impossible. "Look," he says, letting the words come out of his mouth before he can overthink them back in again. "I don't know about you, but making friends when you're a single dad with an insane job is hard. I have your number. Is it okay if I use it for non-school purposes?"
