“You guys have gotten really close.” Mike tells her, trying to make conversation but unable to really hold a steady tone. Instead it comes off condescending. “Will’s allowed to have more than one friend, you know?” Robin replies, and Mike cannot believe her right now. Seriously, she comes in here out of nowhere and thinks she knows Will better than Mike? “I never said he couldn’t.” Mike shoots back. “Plus, are you guys seriously just friends?” Mike says, his eyes narrowing. And again, Robin's eyebrows shoot up. “Very much so, just friends. Like, the emphasis on very is almost comical-” Robin laughs nervously and quickly shuts herself up. “But, why would it matter so much?” Robin continues, a different look in her eye. “It doesn’t matter.” Mike says. “I was just asking.” Any and all forms of tears that might’ve been on Mike’s face are gone now, because he's strictly just annoyed. “Look, I promise you we’re just friends. Sometimes… you just need someone to go to for other things. He’s still your best friend, Wheeler.”

Summary
Robin pops a cassette into its case with more force than necessary. “Okay,” she says, because she’s annoyingly observant in all the ways Will wishes she wasn’t. “Your face just went full ‘my life is ending.’ What happened in the last four seconds?”
Will swallows. “Mike was there.”
“Okay… and?”
“And he was—” Will gestures vaguely in the direction Mike vanished. “Looking at us. Then he walked away really fast.”
Robin’s face does something complicated and knowing, but she smooths it over before he can parse it. “Hmm,” she says.
That’s all. Just “hmm,” like she’s mentally filing the information away under Wheeler Nonsense. Which, if Will is being honest, is a probably a huge fucking file.

Summary
He wanted to go home, stumble into the kitchen, and fall into his mother’s arms like he was still a little kid. But she was barely hanging onto life in some cold, sterile hospital room, and the walls of his kitchen were still splattered with her blood.
And now Will Byers had a girlfriend. It felt like the final nail in a coffin that held the rotting remains of his childhood. Like a line in the sand he never realised he had been dreading since he was six years old.
