Summary
On a distant planet, a team of scientists is conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module. Among the equipment failures and attempts on their lives, there is one man who knows suspiciously too much about what is going on. SecUnit has to do what it has to do - protect its clients.
With GrayCris finally fallen apart for good (hopefully), the researches of PreservationAux and Pansystem University of Mihara and New Tideland conduct on-site research into the alien remnants that GrayCris was so interested in. Murderbot hates this planet, the one on which its humans all almost died before becoming its humans in the first place. But this might be fine, there are only Hostile megafauna and- Nevermind, Gurathin has just lost his memory and has no idea who or what Murderbot is. Just great.

“However, I’m not a fan of one of the nicknames Ratthi likes to use. In fact it’s probably my least favorite, “Gugu” just sounds so irredeemably ridiculous. That said, I haven’t asked him to stop even though he would if I asked. I’ve thought about it, but I know it’s meant as a sign of friendship. And I’d suffer a lot more than a ridiculous nickname or two for the sake of the friends I’ve made since I came to Preservation.
So, in that particular moment, falling without anything to catch me. Ratthi still reaching for me even though it was already too late. His distraught voice still echoing off of the stone around us. I couldn’t help but think—I’d take any number of stupid nicknames over having to hear him scream my name like that ever again.”
(While on a research expedition with PSUMNT Gurathin trips into a Horror Movie situation when he gets separated from the group. Now he has to try and stay alive until Murderbot can pull off a rescue.)

"That can't be it," Shoko says, shaking her head in denial, "there has to be a way to fix it."
Naoya laughs again, high and too sharp. "The only way to fix that would be by fixing all of Gojo's energy at once, and that would take nearly an equal amount of energy from a Guide. Do you really think there's a single person out there who could rival Gojo's reserves?"
Satoru tries to process that, tries to think about what this is all supposed to mean. So what, he's not fixable? He can't be guided? What sort of Sentinel can't be guided? Naoya's muttering continues in the back of his mind, he hears every word but understands none of it. The room is soundproofed but it just makes him feel like the noise is bouncing back and forth in his skull. The air is stale, his mouth is dry, swallowing tastes like sandpaper.
Well, he thinks, this was a bust.

Steve, it's not your fault, Sam had tried to say, before Steve cut him off, and Steve doesn't think that's untrue so much as it's irrelevant; fault's got nothing to do with it. It's just—wrong. It's wrong. Steve couldn't wrap his head around it the first time, how wrong it was. Steve should have gone first. Was supposed to. Bucky could have carried on without Steve, he knows, but Steve without Bucky is a zero sum. There should never be a world that Steve is in and Bucky isn't.

It starts as a matter of desperation. If Jayce didn't know better, he'd swear Viktor is haunting their lab, and frankly, he's not opposed to the idea. Anything to bring his partner back to him.
They've always been accidental revolutionaries, innovators bonded by the same obsessive tendencies and dauntless passion, and somewhere along the way, that obsession and passion bled into their relationship. Their partnership. They're destined to be together, it seems, and break a few laws of nature and magic while they find their way.
OR, season two, but Viktor remembers what it means to be human a little sooner. Jayce is still the cause. He's always the cause.
