Adrien has mastered the art of the smile. Even while his mind is on poor behavior, when he's caught beneath a barrage of unkind thoughts to himself, he's still able to keep his smile. Attend his friends' parties, maintain small talk, get through the day — and hopefully his friends won't realize how messed up he really is.
Everyone is out-pacing him. While he's barely getting out of bed in the morning, his friends are making waves, changing lives, getting engaged.
He can't even get his girlfriend to text him back.
So, sure. Maybe he's not in the best head space right now — but 'suicidal'? Ladybug's certainly just reading too deeply into things. But if her concern for Chat Noir's mental state is enough to get her reaching out, well, he won't turn down the opportunity to chat with a friend. Besides, Ladybug seems to be having a rough go of it, too. Maybe they can help each other out.

And Marinette was unlike anyone Alya had ever met before.
Her thoughts were all over the place - jumping from topic to topic like a small child collecting shiny shells on a beach. It didn’t matter if most of them were broken, Marinette would turn them into something amazing - something beautiful or useful, or both!
She was also as flighty as a pigeon and she needed Alya to yank her back to the ground on occasion.
But more than anything, Marinette cared so much about what was right and what was good, she just cared so much about everything.
The same way Alya did.
The way that no one else ever had.
Alya would do anything for Marinette.

Because Nino doesn’t remember adopting the pathetic lonely kid who only ever had one not so great friend his whole life.
Marinette doesn’t remember falling from the sky into a boy in a catsuit, or taking an umbrella from a shy boy hoping for forgiveness in the pouring down rain.
He can’t recreate any of what he had before.
It’s gone, by his own impulsive hand. It’s been gone for more than a year now.
“Can you please stop torturing yourself?” Felix had begged.
Adrien didn’t bother to respond.
Felix sighed.
“Or if you must, do it somewhere I don’t have to feel it?”
Adrien caught a plane the next day. He could have gone anywhere, and here he is sitting outside the Dupain-Cheng bakery like a moth to a flame.

It’s not working as well as he would like, because the same fear that speeds his steps also lends speed to the akuma itself, but it is working. Mostly. Sort of.
