"It's Warden to you," he snapped, and his grip on his ender pearl tightened. He wasn't Sam when inside these walls, because the Sam before this would never be able to stomach the actions he performed now.
"W-Warden," Dream corrected himself quickly, body swaying as he dragged himself onto unsteady feet. "I, I don't know if the dispenser broke or something, but I haven't had any potatoes for a while. I'm just really hungry now, so I was wondering if you could fix it?"
"It's not broken," Sam scoffed, and turned just enough to see the prisoner's face crumble. Confusion painted his features as he stared, emerald green eyes round and shifted with betrayal.
"Excuse me? What do you mean it's not broken?"

Summary
When the teleportation rune landed them in an unknown territory, Sam was prepared to improvise. He’d come too far, after all, to let Eret slip from his grasp before he got the answers for which he’d been so desperately searching. It didn’t matter all that much anyway, all he had to do was buy enough time for Lindsay and Marquess Manifold’s workers to track them down to the new location.
Except things seem to go off the rails almost immediately, and returning home wasn't as easy a task as simply activating the correct teleportation rune.
For better or worse, he and Eret were stuck, leaving Sam with limited options on how to move forward. He wasn’t sure if it helped that they were now surrounded by genius outcasts as they tried to find their way home, but whatever happened, he would protect his family.
THE SHORT OF IT: A Fantasy/Royalty AU that features unconventional A/B/O dynamics, political worldbuilding, a heavy emphasis on trauma recovery and found family dynamics, and soap-opera levels of non-communication. And also, there’s romance. See forenotes for more details.

“Inappropriate?” Techno finishes, and there’s a wildness in his smile now, a recklessness. “I took a baseball bat to appropriate three years ago when I realized the only person who makes me feel like a person instead of a portfolio is the one person I’m not allowed to have.”
The word have is a detonation. Dream’s knees weaken. He braces a hand against the wall, fingers splayed on the cool plaster.
“Stop.” It’s barely a whisper.
“I can’t.” Techno is closer now. Somehow. Dream doesn’t remember him moving.
Or: Secretary Dream keeps his billionaire CEO running on schedule and oat-milk lattes, but when the rhythm of late-night puzzles and ten-foot silences starts to feel like love, the job description begins to cost more than he budgeted for.

“It’ll really be alright.”
Dream felt his partner’s hand tighten around his own as the other spoke. Logically he knew that meeting Techno’s family was going to be fine overall, but something in his gut told him to worry. Logically, he knew that, no matter what happened, he would find a way to marry the man he loved, but the primal fear in the back of his mind reminded him that it was going to be hard to do that without the other man’s family’s approval of him.
It was scary, standing in front of that door and just waiting for things to resolve themselves, but he wanted this. And he was willing to work for it.
Dream gave his partner’s clammy hand a squeeze and pulled his mask down from his nose to offer a kind smile to the clearly anxious man.
“Hey,” Dream said warmly. “Don’t worry. I’m really good with people’s families! I’m sure they’re gonna love me!”
Techno let out a slightly amused exhale and shook his head.
“Alright then,” He said, raising his hand to knock on the door to his childhood home, giving Dream a moment to pull his mask up before proceeding. “Just be ready for things to be… chaos.”
