Scott breathed deeply, trying to hold in his excitement long enough to eat breakfast. He'd been waiting for this for months. He had been so certain he wouldn't get the job, but he'd applied anyway, just out of sheer hope that maybe the stars would align.
Apparently they did.
He'd been practically vibrating out of his seat ever since he'd signed the contract. This was what he'd always wanted. Ever since he was tiny he'd known he wanted to be a vet who specialised in magical creatures. He hadn't changed his mind on that through the years, not even when university tried to kill him off or when his family members tried to tell him horror stories to get him to change his mind.
This, despite the downsides and the dangers and the hard work, was his purpose in life. He just knew it.

The double life server was set in a perpetual state of late spring. Flowers on the ground, the occasional chill in the air, mostly cold nights, but the sun was starting to get some warmth to it and the weather was mostly clear.That's what made the blizzard such a big surprise.
It came out of nowhere. One minute then sun was shining and Jimmy was replanting their wheat, the next the ground was a blanket of white and he was sprinting back into the ranch. They could see that the weather was even worse beyond their walls, snowdrifts already starting to build and a darkness to the sky which they believed only wardens could create.
"It's supposed to be spring," Tango murmured as they stared out the window, wrapped up under a blanket together in a tangle of limbs as they tried to keep the new chill out. Tango's blaze rods were picking up speed as his body reacted to the cold, just as Jimmy's feathers were fluffing up. "It's not supposed to snow during spring. Not in the plains."
Jimmy couldn't reply. Not when they both knew it to be true. Not when it so clearly was.

Finally the pancakes finished. He slid the final one onto the plate and put them in the oven to keep warm while he tidied up. Games night didn't exactly need a clean kitchen, that's what the couch covered in blankets was for, but his boyfriends would notice if it was messy. At least one of them would end up doing his dishes if they weren't all done before they arrived and while he appreciated the help, today wasn't that kind of day. Today he was supporting them, helping everyone feel normal again, not proving how much he really wasn't coping, even when he'd had several weeks more to recover than anyone else.Pancakes, drinks, more snacks, games. Everything was ready. His boyfriends were going to be there any second so Tango quickly ran upstairs, needing to change out of his messy clothes - redstone and pancake mixture both splattered his trousers - into something different.

The sound of a familiar engine reached him, making him let out a sigh of relief. There was no vehicle in the whole of the city that sounded anything like Doc's. The man was a mad scientist and not ashamed of it. He would mess around with anything he found. There was a rule at the labs that if you left something laying around, it was Doc's now. That was how Martyn had ended up with a speaker that you couldn't put above level 3 unless you wanted to cause structural damage, and probably permanently damaged your own ears.He shoved himself to his feet, wobbling towards the mouth of the alleyway. They timed it perfectly, the door to the car pulling open at the same moment as he toppled forwards.
"A perfect extraction as always," Ren cheered as he pulled Martyn into his arms, already fussing over him. Ren was in fact not a doctor of any kind, but that never stopped him from checking Martyn for any injuries and worrying about it if he found any.
