A whole different story. They couldn’t trust him with anything. So Finney moved to Hawkins, Indiana. He reinvented himself. Pretended to be perfect. Surrounded himself with fake friends. Became popular. But none of it was real. His smile. His dumbed-down personality. Even his hair. All fake. Because Finney was smart—*very* smart—but Steve Harrington wasn’t supposed to be. Steve Harrington was just a mask. It was survival. Because the world is cruel—especially to people like Finney Blake. So maybe Steve Harrington killed Finney Blake. Or maybe the Grabber did. No one really knows. All they know is that Finney Blake died in that basement, alongside the other ghost boys. And the part of Steve that’s missing? That piece could never come back.

And so he did, every noon Finney would make his way to their designated area and wait for Robin on the swing set, but he didn't come. Day after day, noon till night Finney would be there, waiting. And as the summer went on, Finney didn’t lose hope, but instead made excuses for Robin. “No Gwen, I'm sure he’s just busy! He wouldn’t purposely stand me up.” He tried telling himself that, he really tried. But when the summer began its closure and Finney was once again left swinging alone, realization had finally sunk in. Robin wasn’t coming, and he never intended to.

“Finney!” A voice spoke up, Pulling Finney out of his thoughts. He lifted his head up groggily to see who’d disturbed his daydream, and when his eyes met Billy’s, a wide grin spread on his face. His daydream could wait.“Billy!” Finney smiled, watching the boy fumble to park his bike.
“It’s been a while since i've seen you out here, you're normally on your way too.. uh.. what's his name’s place?”
“Robin’s.” Gwen spat out bitterly, causing Billy to tilt his head slightly.
“Uh.. yeah him.” He chuckled nervously.
“Ah well, things changed I guess.” Finney shrugged, his eyes falling to the floor.
“You can always come to mine, you know, It's been a while since I’ve had you over, my ma misses you.” Billy teases, unparking his bike, looking left and right before hopping on.
“Yeah, That’d be nice. Thank you Billy.” Finney smiled, waving goodbye to the paperboy as he returned to his daily route.

“Honestly? Likely.” Finney grinned, looking up at Billy, searching his eyes for dishonesty. He sighed loudly. “I trust you, Billy. But you have to promise to stick with me!” Billy hums.

Finney works in a small bookstore. He’s quiet, observant, full of routines: he opens the shop at 7:45, arranges the old books, lights a scented candle, and writes little notes for the customers.
Robin works right across the street in a loud, chaotic mechanic’s workshop. He’s impulsive, his hands always covered in grease, headphones hanging from his neck, and an energy that contrasts with everything Finney is.
Every day, without fail, Robin crosses the street at 9:12 in the morning to buy a coffee from the bookstore, which they sell as an additional service. He always arrives soaked, because he never remembers to bring an umbrella.
Until one day it rains so hard that Finney, without thinking, runs out with an umbrella and holds it over his head.
That simple gesture changes everything.
Will they be able to learn to walk under the same umbrella… even when it stops raining?

Finney Blake and Robin Arellano were a duo. When you saw Robin, you knew Finney was close behind, when you saw Finney, you knew Robin was only a few paces in front of him. They had been inseparable since they found out they were soulmates when they accidentally bumped into each other when they were five years old. Women cooed whenever they were spotted together, with Finney's hand firmly clasped with Robin's or Robin pressing sweet kisses to Finney's forehead (curse him for being so tall) with a mutter of "Estrella bonita." It was a shock when one day Robin was without Finney, tears threatening to break free from the prison of his eyes as he searches all over town with a piece of paper clutched in his hand. 'Missing Child.'
Or, Finney is kidnapped first, years before the other boys meet Robin.

Robin knew he was going to be in a load of trouble when his mother got here, but he didn't care. The kid deserved it. He deserved it a lot. He knows violence isn't always the answer, Finney had said it often enough for it be tattooed on the underside of his eyelids, in the pretty, neat handwriting of his Estrella bonita. But, Finney wasn't here right now, and, with how things are going, it looks like Finney's not going to be here for a while. But Robin wouldn't give up hope. He knew his Estrella bonita wasn't dead, like everyone in this stupid town thought, he could still feel his emotions. The deep fear settling itself in their tightly woven bond like rust settling on an old bench. He also could feel hints of want and nausea. It killed him to think about whatever his Finney was going through, all alone and scared, and he was here, forced to go to school instead of looking for his soulmate with all the other adults. Gwen, Finney's little sister, was cracking as well. She was so young, only six when her older brother disappeared, she was now seven and Robin was now nine, Finney would be turning nine, too, in a few months.
It had been weeks since anyone had ever seen Finney Blake, so he was ruled dead and his loved ones were told to mourn and move on. Robin never did. Neither did Gwen.

It had been years since Finney went missing and was never found. Robin knew he still wasn't dead. That was the only thing keeping him going. Finney had learnt to kind of communicate with Robin through their bond,

It was at the beginning of the fifth year of not having Finney, that four boys decided to befriend him. Bruce Yamada, Denver's resident golden boy with a penchant for sarcasm and faux smiles to whoever dared to cross him when all he had done was be kind. He reminded Robin of Finney, kind of, they both shared a love of baseball and they were both kind and happy souls. Griffin Stagg, who seemed innocent but could rip your throat out within a second with words and attitude only. Billy Showalter, a boy who looked uncaring but probably cared the most out of their little friend group of misfits and outcasts. And Vance Hopper, a boy with a meaner violent streak than Robin's who showed that he cared through harsh yells and firm grips on their arms or clothing. Robin could practically smell their connection to Finney. He knew Finney would have more than one soulmate, he just didn't expect to meet them instead of Finney meeting them.

Gwen waits for the storm to happen. She waits for the anger, the fists and the sound of her 'father' unbuckling his belt. She's waiting for the crater-like punches to be implanted into her skin, like she's seen him do to Finney and her mum too many times. This is the first time she's told him about the dreams she and her mother share, she didn't want to be hurt like Finney was when he woke him up sobbing and crying because he had 'seen a ghost'. Finney hadn't been able to walk properly and hobbled around with a limp for the entirety of two weeks. She didn't want to end up like her mum, slowly being driven insane by the man who was supposed to be her soulmate and finally cracking and splintering, slitting her wrists so deep her father had seen bone in the bathtub, a suicide note splotched with tears and bloody fingerprints that Gwen wasn't allowed to read. "Was he now?" Terrence doesn't sound like he believes her, but what else is new? She's better off telling Robin, he'd do something about it other than condescend her and ignore her warnings. Gwen nods, sniffling like she was five years old again, watching Finney take the punishment that was supposed to be hers. She hates feeling helpless, so she steels her face and her 'father' nods happily. "My strong little girl." He sniffs, getting up and walking out of her bedroom, wiping his nose with his sleeve.
