BEST TIME LOOP FIC. eddie keeps dying but then steve realizes that he keeps doing that not because he’s brave necessarily but bc he does want to die. and then a month passes but eddie starts remembering too. and then this eldritch goddess parallels everything and steve is so upset he gets vecnad and it all comes around.
the relationships between literally everyone are so fuckign good. steve characterization is my favorite of all time.

Nancy takes the opportunity to properly stare. Robin’s nose is pointed; her lips naturally part a little, leaving her front two teeth half-visible; her eyelashes are like spider legs, splayed top and bottom, painted a deep black. She’s got the kind of face you remember for the rest of your life. Nancy’s gaze catches on the wide gap between Robin’s brows. My lips would fit there perfectly, she thinks.
Nancy has never run from what she’s wanted and she’s not about to start now.

She frowns. "Trust me with what?"
Now or never. "Hypothetically," Will says, spreading his palms against his knees and trying his best to control his erratic heartrate, "How- open of a marriage would you be okay with?"
Being a prince isn't everything it's cracked up to be, but Will tries to make the most of it.

Mike’s been waiting 737 days for this exact moment, always too intimately aware of every single second that’s passed him by since he disappeared. “You’re alive,” he tells him, stupid and reverent. This time, it seems to get through to Will. He watches the hard exterior recede, exposing the gentle warmth that Mike has always admired
“I’m alive,” Will repeats. “I’m alive.” He lets out a hysterical giggle and suddenly he’s the one falling into Mike, limbs tangling and hands clutching at each other until he can’t tell where one of them ends and the other begins. “And you’re here. You came for me.”
Will’s fingers dig into his forearms. Mike swallows the instinctive I would always come for you on the tip of his tongue.
OR: Even after watching Will get trapped in the Upside Down for good, Mike never stopped believing he was alive. After stumbling upon a gate two years later, he takes a chance and learns to finally follow his heart.

Nancy wasn’t someone who was meant to be a sister. She was an independent soul from day one. She’d come into the world kicking and screaming, faced with a society that told her that she had to stick up for herself, because no one else would.
So Mike had been a wrench in her plans. With him came the title of big sister, the expectation to look after a smaller person even when they were dumb and rude and annoying. Nancy never wanted to be a sister, much less a big one, and Mike had gone and messed that up.

Three shots ring out.
Steve hears them before he feels them; a warm, wet pain burning in his torso, intolerably excruciating.
There’s a bundle of squawks and screams, outbursts of panic and anger, and it’s only when Hopper falls forwards to take Steve up into a slightly rough, protective hold, does he realize that two of those shots have lodged themselves in his own flesh and bone. (Realizes that he’d moved, instinctively, to shield El, despite never having spoken to her, who’d the gun had been so precisely pointed at, aimed for.)
Steve Harrington watches his own blood pool and trickle over a series of hands pressed against him, small and large, soft and rugged, and for a moment, wants to stay like this. He can’t.

Mike breathes out sharply, sinking to his knees in front of Will without conscious thought. Every bone in his body is turning to jelly, because Will is here, but he's also- not. His form is made up of the same dusty gold that fills the air around him, flaking off him and dancing around. Mike wants to reach out and catch the light in his palm. Will looks not entirely solid, like this is some poor imitation of him rendered in light particles, like his physical form is somewhere else, and for a horrible moment Mike thinks that Will is a ghost after all. That this is an illusion, brought about by Mike's hopeless yearning. If it weren't for the pebbles digging sharply into his legs as he knees on the ground and the crisp chill of the spring air on his face, Mike would be sure he was dreaming, but he doesn't think he could dream up something so simultaneously as magical and horrifying as the specter of his maybe-dead friend hovering before him.
"Will," he whispers, reaching out until his fingers are centimeters from Will's arm, and Will's eyes fly open.
on march 29th, 1986, will byers vanishes for a second time. 366 days later, he reappears.
