She stared at the New York skyline for what felt like an eternity, fingers resting on her thighs. She dug her nails in, ever so lightly. Attempted to ground herself.
The silence stretched on. Not uncomfortably. Fingers trembling, she took a short breath in.
"Good," she texted back. Tossed her phone halfway across the room, it landed softly on the carpet. Her cheeks heated. A phrase she learned in Latin earlier that week resurfaced in her mind:
"Medio tutissimus ibis - you will go most safely in the middle."
Neither of them had ever been good at safe. Or finding a middle ground.

The French woke up to see edits of him that night and his friends calling him to tease him about it but somehow are genuinely trying to get the two together after that night. Pierre continues to deny any form of emotion he didn't have but after going on the first date with the jogger which he somehow finds on Tinder disguised as a girl, maybe he was interested in guys after all.
