    Mike glances away sheepishly, blushing and raising a hand to rub nervously at the back of his neck. "Um. Not exactly."

    Will frowns. What else could it possibly be, he wonders, what with the hickeys and the evasive behavior and the coming home late, all of which Will is totally normal and not annoyed about. Maybe it was - he winces at the thought - a hookup that ended poorly, or a series of unrelated incidents, or-

    "What is it, then?" he asks, if only to distract himself from this obviously destructive train of thought, and Mike meets his eyes nervously.

    "There's not a girl," Mike repeats, sounding a little pained, "But there is- a boy."

    The world stops.

    Surrounded by a flock of alphas who Phainon knew would not spare a thought for him, and would be all too happy to service Mydei in his heat, were the omega so inclined.

    Phainon has done much to overcome his humble beginnings, rising to rule the underworld all so he could have Mydei, heir to one of the longest-running and most prominent gangs, as his exclusive omega.     The smirk slides off Rozanov’s face. For long moments, he’s as quiet as he was in the car. Then, his head drops back against the couch, exposing his long throat. It bobs as he swallows. “They want –” he swallows again, bringing one arm up to drape over his eyes. “The team I play for. During lockout. They… disagree about rest of season. Tell me I stay.”

    “But they can’t do that!”

    Rozanov gives him a sardonic smirk.

    When Rozanov’s Russian team doesn’t want to let him return to the NHL after the 2012-13 lockout, Shane finds himself pulled into a harebrained scheme to make sure his rival is safe – and it might just work. It’s not like there are feelings at play that could get in the way, right?

    "This isn't about us!" Optimus says, louder than intended. He berates himself for losing his composure when Megatron's lips curl into a smirk. "I am willing to do anything to keep Cybertron safe."

    "Safe from me, you mean," Megatron says, gesturing towards the dark halls of the Nemesis outside of Optimus' prison cell.

    "Yes.”

    An arranged bond is a dangerous, loveless union in which one's death can have catastrophic consequences for the other. It's a trap with no way out.

    It's also Optimus' only chance to end the war, so he proposes a deal Megatron is unable to refuse.

From his sudden blown-out pupils to the hand on the back of his neck and the terrifying radical acceptance he had grown so good at perfecting, his intentions were never hidden from them all. But before, it had never been the choice of life or death, not like how it is this time around.

    Will saw the moment his best friend realized that there was no stopping him. His breathing evened out a little more and his hands that were once frantically gesturing to get his point across were now slack at his side. The muscles in Lucas' face relaxed a little bit as his nerves calmed down and reality set in. Nothing he could possibly say would stop what the brunette was about to do.

    "Be careful." Lucas yelled out at him, still shaken up and absolutely terrified.

He couldn’t keep up the greetings and the asking questions and the easy stroll. He let his shoulders creep up to his ears, let his foot tap incessantly. He did what his Captain told him, but stopped asking for anything more. Stopped following the conversation in the back of the engine on the way to the call; he just stared out the window, thinking about the case to come, preparing for it. When he woke every morning, there was no big recovery milestone to strive for, no big fight for the soul of his career to win. Not even the happy swell of being back on shift -- something so easy to dismiss, that had dominated so much of his life, that he had taken for granted-- that had catalyzed him each morning of his first week back.
    An old habit of his had returned. A bad habit.
